When I left England in 1977, adjusting to life in America was hard enough, but to do it without all the good junk food I had come to know and love, was very unbearable. Things like Cadbury's chocolate, Kitkat, Rolo, Twix, Snickers, and no salt and vinegar crisps. Luckily, all these things started to appear by the early eighties. (Crunchie bars cannot be found, but if you look hard, you can find a cheap Australian rip-off which is nearly the same thing - but I don't eat it by the way, because they make it with gelatin.)
One of the first to appear was Snickers. I immediately recognised the type face of "Snickers" as a chocolate bar known as Marathon. Even the colours and logo were the same. The only difference was the name. I ate it. Sure enough, Snickers was Marathon. When I got back to London in '84, I found that the Marathon bars there were now Snickers. What happened? Who did this? What was the reason? This has been one of the major mysteries of my life.
Now, I was in Walgreens today, and I see Snickers has a new spin off product. Apparently, they are trying to get into the health concious food snacks arena. It is a new candy 'energy' bar with the snickers logo written above its name. The name? Why it is "Marathon". It comes in various healthy flavours. So it has come full circle. Welcome back Marathon, even if you are something different.

"There is no creator" - the Dalai Lama. These are words of common sense, and it tells me that "spirituality" has nothing in particular to do with a belief in the supernatural. But then, those of us who grew up in the seventies watching "Kung Fu" already knew that being a vegan, atheist who follows the path of the buddha can reach enlightenment.
All kidding aside, what does a vegetarian atheist have to say? Stick around and you'll find out! Politically I'm rather liberal, but I do like to listen to staunch conservative talk show host Michael (the 'Whiner') Savage so I'll probably be mentioning him from time to time in my weblogs. So for now, how about some talk of broccoli, carrots and peas? Recipe's anyone??

"As mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality."
