The official CIA report today states these facts: Saddam stopped Nuclear program in 1991 Saddam stopped Biological program in 1995 Saddam stopped chemical program in 1991
Scott Ritter was right all along. It looks like the 12 years of sanctions worked. If only Bush would allow the weapons inspectors to finish their job.
Less safe today under Bush
Saddam Hussein kept the Islamic Fundamentalists at bay and in check. His enemies were Iran, and by default, al Qaeda. Hussein ran a secular state, but his cabinet had a varied cast of characters, among them was a high ranking catholic. Iran would never think of striking him, because they thought he had great weapons of mass destruction. The Shiite majority had to be obedient, because Saddam had an iron fist.
Today, there is no one in power for the Shiites to fear. There are no WMD, there is no Saddam, and there are no Republican guards. The kurds, the Shiites and the Bathists are aggitating on the verge of a civil war. Iran is trying to pull the strings, because they would love to have another Islamic state next to them. What was once an area of containment, is now an unstable tinderbox. Whether Bush or Kerry is in office next year, it is not a good situation for the next President.
The US was safe under Clinton, and it can be safe again under Kerry. But we can't expect to save Iraq. It may be beyond saving, and maybe civil war is the only way to go. No one jumped in to save the US when they had their civil war, maybe we should just leave Iraq up to the Iraqis and let the cards fall where they fall.

"There is no creator" - the Dalai Lama. These are words of common sense, and it tells me that "spirituality" has nothing in particular to do with a belief in the supernatural. But then, those of us who grew up in the seventies watching "Kung Fu" already knew that being a vegan, atheist who follows the path of the buddha can reach enlightenment.
All kidding aside, what does a vegetarian atheist have to say? Stick around and you'll find out! Politically I'm rather liberal, but I do like to listen to staunch conservative talk show host Michael (the 'Whiner') Savage so I'll probably be mentioning him from time to time in my weblogs. So for now, how about some talk of broccoli, carrots and peas? Recipe's anyone??

"As mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality."
