Permalink Air Force working on anti matter weapons

Taking a page out of Star Trek, the Air Force is working on anti matter weapons. The story appeared in this Sunday's SF Chronicle, but I couldn't find a link to it. Instead, I found this article which made reference to the Chronicle.

[Kenneth] Edwards said that when electrons or protons collide with their antimatter counterparts, they annihilate each other creating more than 10 billion times more bang than high explosive. Only 1/25th of an once would power 23 space shuttle fuel tanks of energy.

A speck of the stuff, a millionth of a gram could contain as much energy as 37.8 kilograms (83 pounds) of TNT.
