The Ten Commandments I was born a roman catholic. I had 12 years of catholic school. Could you tell? Most of my moral and ethical outlook on life was shaped by the younger me. When I hear "Thou Shalt Not Kill", I asked myself why does it only apply to human beings? It doesn't specify humans. Why not extend it to all of Gods creatures? Thus, the little sparkle of veganism was created inside of my head at an early stage in my life.
So I read the July 18th blog of Moby and I am miffed that he is perpetuating the MYTH of the TEN COMMANDMENTS. He mentions "Thou Shalt Not Kill", which is NOT one of the Ten Commandments. A lot of people think it is, but obviously, these are the ignorant masses who have never actually read their bible.
So let me fill you in. Moses was in a fit of rage when he destroyed the original commandments. The bible does not use the term "Ten Commandments" until he goes back up the mountain to get a new set from God. Yea, he was going senile in his old age, and could not remember them. But wait! God, in his infinite wisdom, gave a new and different set of commandments to Moses. Was he also senile? Or was he just playing a joke on the old man? One of these new commandments, now referred to as the "Ten Commandments" for the first time in Exodus, is that you should not cook a baby goat in its mothers milk. Gone are the "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and "adultery" laws.
So, when you hear about the so called "Ten Commandments", please ask which ones are they referring to. The original commandments, or the ones known as the "Ten Commandments" in Exodus. Oh, and ask them if they eat goat.

"There is no creator" - the Dalai Lama. These are words of common sense, and it tells me that "spirituality" has nothing in particular to do with a belief in the supernatural. But then, those of us who grew up in the seventies watching "Kung Fu" already knew that being a vegan, atheist who follows the path of the buddha can reach enlightenment.
All kidding aside, what does a vegetarian atheist have to say? Stick around and you'll find out! Politically I'm rather liberal, but I do like to listen to staunch conservative talk show host Michael (the 'Whiner') Savage so I'll probably be mentioning him from time to time in my weblogs. So for now, how about some talk of broccoli, carrots and peas? Recipe's anyone??
