Permalink National sales tax to replace income tax?

The Bush adminstration is toying with the idea of replacing income tax with some kind of sales tax.

This idea does appeal to me. Currently, my taxes help support the corporate welfare of factory farming. If I don't buy meat, then I am not contributing to it. Nice. All vegetarians won't buy it either. Maybe meat will go up in price. Cool.

Bring it on!

Tony,

Flat tax system is a good idea. It will probably never pass though, since taxes has become an industry. It's ok to put thousands of steel workers on the streets, but nobody wants to mess with the CPAs.

The major benefit of a flat tax is that folks who don't spend a lot don't have much of a tax burden. Those who do spend a lot shoulder the lion's share. Your salary and your take home pay would be the same. Frugal people who make a decent wage can save more because of their frugality alone.

On a side note, I am guessing your blood type is A - am I right?

I don't remember what blood type I am, I always ask whenever I see the doctor and I always forget.

Is your blood type suppose to influence you? I don't believe it.
