Permalink Gun nuts - time to put up or shut up

I haven't heard any good NRA bashing lately, I think the times have been quiet, so maybe I should stir the pot.

The gun nuts have always hid behind the second amendment. They say they have the right to bear arms because the second amendment makes claim their right as a well regulated militia. But that has always been the source of conflict. Are they really a well regulated militia?

Seems to me, if we ever needed a well regulated militia, today would be the time. We are suppose to be at war. Where are all the gun nuts stepping up to the plate and having daily or weekly meetings to help protect the country? We don't have enough cops (many went off to Iraq) and so I think it is time this well regulated militia stepped in and put their money where their mouths have been for so long. There is a chemical plant within 30 miles of your house, shouldn't you be putting in at least one hour a week to help protect it from terrorists?

But the gun nuts are very, very quiet. Hmmm, maybe they just depend on the government, afterall, for their protection. Or maybe the truth is, people who have guns are really more afraid of their fellow Americans than they are of al Qaeda.

A federal court has upheld the second amendment as an individual freedom. Given that, do you think religious and speech nuts have always hid behind the first amendment?

Each of the amendments is a recognition of an inalienable right. Inalienable rights are not granted by a government - merely recognized by it. That's what inalienable means - it cannot be revoked. With that in mind, why would a group be inalienably endowed certain rights, which in turn were not granted to individuals - keep in mind "inalienable".

The gun nuts are quiet, relatively, because there have been no direct attacks lately on gun rights by government. The Democrats have realized that most of their reasoning has been proved incorrect and the federal court ruling takes a lot of wind from the "militia=national guard only" sail.

Cheers!
